What is an integrated VDIS?
Recent trends over the past few years prior to COVID pandemic have shown an upward swing in the number of road accidents in the country leading to loss of lives and public property. In order to ensure road safety as well as accurate and timely information sharing among the major stakeholders of transport sector in the country, the Beneficiaries (passengers, pedestrians etc.), Service Providers (drivers, transport owners etc.) and Government Regulatory Authority need to work together and be in sync during the commute. There is thus a necessity for the authority to establish an online monitoring system, connected to each stakeholder, with near real-time data for better decision-making purpose. The integrated Vehicle and Driver Information System (VDIS) will serve this purpose through the development of driver information system, vehicle management system, BI-based central monitoring system and their integration with traffic information system, with every information available through a mobile interface.
We have seen similar technology adoption done in Australia to improve the transport services and connect transport and traffic agencies to work together in the name of “Austroads” projects. These projects’ purpose was to support member organisations to deliver an improved Australasian road transport network, one that meets the future needs of the community, industry and economy.
